CAS is like HRCs – time for a major shakeup

Kevin Libin has written an excellent exposé of the Children’s Aid Societies (and their other named kin) across Canada, and he has gotten a significant amount of feedback supporting his findings.

The problem is that unaccountable “social workers” have been given supra-legal powers to enter homes and “apprehend” children based on entirely subjective criteria.  If people’s children are to be taken away, this should require a court-order (from a real judge) – and be based on objective criteria – such as clear evidence of physical or sexual abuse, malnutrition, or other measurable things.  A statement from a three year old that “Mommy and Daddy fight” would never fly as evidence in a real courtroom, and no one could be convicted of assault because someone has a bruised knee.

Additionally, if and when children do need to be removed from an unsafe environment, they must be placed into a demontrably safe one – and it needs to be above and beyond normal safety.  Children should have their own rooms, beds, good food, clothing, schooling and counselling.  They should not go hungry, or die in the care of so-called foster parents who are really only in this for the cheque they get from the government.

Like the HRCs, the Children’s Aid Societies and Family Services organizations need to be reined in lest they destroy our civilization.

i have had the unfortunate run-ins with these……..people. first on to come to my door happened to be the daughter of the chief of police here in chatham. what a belligerent little b#$$$. she outright accused me of beating not only my son but my girlfirend as well (even gave her a card for the spousal abuse hotline) and threatened to take furhter action if i didnt let her interview my boy without me in the room. i of course refused adn never heard from her again. the second incident however stemmed from daycare (best start program for those of you reading the garbage in ontario here) where they co-mingle with CAS to “help” parents with “troubled” children. i had two come here brandishing their badge without telling me why? fortunately (although i was pissed my dad let them in my house after i told them NO) he showed them my photographs with our local MP whom i am a member of the board with and also pictures with john baird, diane finley, senator del nino AND the PM Harper. they decided that they should leave (dont know if that did it but they did come only as far as the living room). we pulled our son out of the best start program after that.

  • I disagree. By the sounds of it, the CAS is worse than the HRCs. I couldn’t believe the letters and e-mails that were sent in. It was like reading a horror story.
